I am 4 weeks into my internship at Community Connection and I am already seeing the importance of agency collaboration. In August, I met with the Holiday Charity Coalition which is a group of different agencies that give toys to kids at Christmas time. It was a scorching 100 degrees outside, but it was jingle bells for the Holiday Coalition inside. Because they are working together, toy giving this year should run smoothly. I also met with the Homeless Coalition. Many agency representatives predict a tough year for people experiencing homelessness. Economic times, being what they are, there will be more homeless and less resources. Agencies really need volunteers! Speaking of volunteering, The Athens Volunteer Fair will be at the Tate Center on 9/19. I will be helping attendees register on the HandsOn site. FYI- I made 61 table signs (one for each agency). That is a record number of nonprofits attending the fair!! I will be next to the Rivers Alive table. If you want to help keep our waterways clean and healthy sign up for their next river clean up on 10/15. I will also be next to the Athens Community Mentor Collaborative table (there is that collaboration going on again). They need volunteer mentors. Mentors can really make a difference in a young person’s life. Check it out. In fact, check out all the tables to see where you can lend a hand.
See you at the fair!
