We received the most exciting news this week! HandsOn Northeast Georgia was awarded a $28,000 grant from State Farm Youth Advisory Board to support the YOUthServe Program! We are so happy! Of course, we couldn’t have done it without Caitlin Nossett’s amazing grant-writing skills and program development.
So what is State Farm doing giving us all that money? You can hear about it straight from them (http://statefarmyab.com/about/) but essentially they have pledged $5,000,000.00 per year to support service-learning initiatives across the United States and Canada. Pretty awesome, right? Well the craziest thing about it is this initiative is led by a Youth Advisory Board (YAB) – 30 youth between the ages of 17 and 20 from all across the service are. What an incredible experience for each of them!
Okay, so the State Farm YAB thought we were worth the $28,000 we asked for. So where is that money going? It will completely support the YOUthServe Program. We are looking for high school students interested in participating in service-learning and leadership development efforts. We are looking for students who want to make a change in their current community. And if you’re reading this, I hope that means we are looking for YOU!
